Indiana's Favorite Hometown Restaurants
A Publication of the Indiana Association of Cities & Towns

If you like great food and also enjoy discovering new Indiana destinations then this is a great resource that you shouldn't be without.

With 1,500 copies originally published in 1995, Indiana's Favorite Hometown Restaurants was a huge success. Thanks to news media attention and word-of-mouth advertisement from readers they ended up printing a total of 5,000 copies. In 1998 they published a second edition.

Local elected officials and the staff of the Association of Cities and Towns nominated all the restaurants listed. They favored locally owned and operated restaurants and no "chain" restaurants are listed. They have also tried to assure objectivity by not considering any advertisements or endorsements.

This second edition includes more than 70 additional restaurant listings and much more information like historic facts and out-of-the-way visitor attractions.

The book is conveniently divided into sections representing different areas of the state. It also starts off with a top ten list of the best restaurants state-wide. SouthernIN.com readers glancing through this top ten list might notice a couple of restaurants from our own Best Of Southern Indiana reader's poll. Leavenworth's Overlook Restaurant, Jasper's Schnitzelbank and New Harmony's Red Geranium can all boast being on both "best of" lists.

As you glance through the regional entries you'll see a lot of other restaurants in common with our own reader's poll. There will certainly be entries from this book that will be featured in future SouthernIN.com article as we are finding it to be an incredible source of ideas for our own weekend trips.

With spring in the air we highly encourage you to get a copy of this book and start planning your weekend getaways throughout the beautiful state of Indiana. You can surely find this book in some of your better bookstores and online booksellers or you can contact us at [email protected] and we can make arrangements for you to get one.

Anyone who enjoys SouthernIN.com will definitely love this book!
