Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial

Next, enter Spencer County on Route 66. The Scenic Route leaves the river at some points, but still offers views of scenic countryside. Spencer County is where Abraham Lincoln grew up, and there are several places to stop and learn about this influential president. The Lincoln Pioneer Village & Museum is in Rockport City Park, and Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial is just north of the Route in Lincoln City. We visited this memorial, and found it interesting to walk on the ground that Abraham Lincoln played, lived and grew up from the ages of seven to 21. During summer months visitors can see a working pioneer farmstead. Year-round attractions are the site of the family’s original log cabin, Lincoln’s mother’s grave and family cemetery, and a learning center.

Across the road from this site is Lincoln State Park, where you can enjoy “Young Abe Lincoln”, a musical drama at the outdoor Lincoln Amphitheater, as well as hiking, picnic areas, Lake Lincoln, and camping.
