Haunted Mansions, Caves, State Parks, and Corn Mazes

October brings out even the most elusive ghosts and goblins, and we’ve tracked down some haunted tours where you’re guaranteed to encounter some spooky characters.

New Albany’s Culbertson Mansion is “literally a haunted house”, and this will be the 14th annual haunted house event. This haunting is locally and nationally recognized as one of the best haunted house experiences. The chilling tour takes visitors through a haunted carriage house, one of the oldest and scariest haunted houses in the area. The Culbertson Mansion is an 100+ year old Victorian home. Tours are every Friday and Saturday through October, and on October 31st. Doors open at 7pm. Tickets are $8 a person. Call 800-552-3842 or 812-282-6654.

Spring Mill State Park will also be haunted on October 21st. Pioneer Village, which has 22 buildings from the 1832 time period will be the setting of a marked walk. Several of the houses and common areas will have vignettes with characters played by park staff, Friends of the State Park, and other volunteers. The village is open 9-5 daily, with Haunted Village from 7-9pm on October 21st. Call 812-849-4129.

On October 28 the Halloween on the Square celebration will be held on the historic downtown Corydon Square. On that same day, a Haunted Cave Walk will be held in Wyandotte Caves. There will be two, two-hour haunted cave walks, at 1 and 3pm Eastern Daylight Savings Time. Adults are $5.00 and aged 4-12 are $2.50, however it may not be suitable for children under 8. Jennings County has a unique haunting at The Castle of the Corn Maze. From October 13th through the 29th, each Friday and Saturday night the maze will turn into a “haunted castle” beginning at dark, until around 10pm. The maze is located north of North Vernon, near Scipio. Call 812-352-9445 for information or for directions.

McMaze Indiana, a multiacre cornfield near Cambridge City which is cut into the shape of Indiana and Peyton Manning, will also be haunted on weekends. The dates of the hauntings are October 14, 20, 21, 27 and 28. Visit their web site at http://infocom.com/mcmaze/ or call 765-478-5198.

The Scott County corn maze operated by the Montogomery family, located 25 miles north of Louisville, will also be haunted each Saturday night in October. Wesselman Woods Nature Preserve near Evansville will also offer Haunted Hay Rides through a haunted forest, food. 812-479-0771.
