USS Vincennes Monument - Located at the foot of the Lincoln Memorial Bridge on Vigo Street. The U.S.S. Vincennes Monument commemorates the four naval ships named for our community. The first, was launched in 1826 and was the flagship of a US South Seas Exploring Expedition. The second U.S.S. Vincennes, a heavy cruiser, saw action at Midway and sank at Guadalcanal in 1942. The third U.S.S. Vincennes was a light cruiser launched in 1943. The current U.S.S. Vincennes is a guided missile cruiser and was launched in 1984. Her crew is currently stationed in Japan.

Lincoln Memorial Bridge - Located at the western end of Vigo Street, crossing the Wabash River into Illinois. Dedicated in 1933, the Lincoln Memorial Bridge marks the point where Abraham Lincoln crossed the Wabash aboard a ferry on his way to Illinois in 1830. This imposing structure also marks the fording place of the great herds of buffalo which, hundreds of years ago, carved the Buffalo Trace on their way from the Great Plains across present day Indiana to the bluegrass region of Kentucky. Two Native American figures important to the history of the Old Northwest - Tecumseh and his brother the Prophet - guard the eastern entrance to the bridge.

Sugar Loaf Indian Mound - Located on Wabash Avenue (behind the YMCA building). The origin of Sugar Loaf Mound has been the subject of much speculation for more than two centuries. A study conducted in 1996 by Indiana State University concluded that the mound is a natural landform, created by wind deposits during the last glacial period. It was, however, used by Native Americans as a cemetery during the Late Woodland (600-1000 AD). Also known as "Prospect Hill," the mound has offered those passing through this area a panoramic view of the surrounding countryside. The mound is open to the public; visitors today may climb the spiral staircase to the top.

Vincennes University - 1002 N. First Street, Vincennes. (812) 888-8888. Older than the state of Indiana and birthplace of one of the first two-year colleges in the nation. Vincennes University has long been an innovator in providing quality education and personal attention to students. Over 5,500 students enjoy modern academic, athletic and residential facilities on the 100-acre campus where 150 programs in some of the fastest growing career fields are offered.
