Marion County, Indiana

For the traveler looking for the excitement of city life, shopping, restaurants, professional sports, or the state's largest concentration of museums, Indianapolis, the state's capital, is the perfect getaway. Indianapolis has rightfully been called “the Crossroads of America”, as it is centrally located, with many major highways passing through.

Indianapolis is the largest city in Indiana, and the 12th largest city in the United States, with a population of 818,014 (and growing!) It was ranked 5th in Entrepreneur Magazine's choice of the 30 best cities for small business, and was listed as one of “America's best places to live and work” in the August ‘96 issue of Employment Review.

If you haven't visited Indianapolis lately, you may be surprised at what you'll find. Downtown you'll find the new Hard Rock Cafe, Planet Hollywood, White River Gardens, Circle Center Mall, the Indiana Historical Society's new museum and concert hall. And the newest state-owned museum, Col. Eli Lilly Civil War Museum, will open October 8. This will be located at the Soldiers and Sailors Monument southwest quadrant.

With the Brickyard 400 and Indianapolis 500 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Indianapolis remains the undisputed “Racing Capital of the World”.
