Attractions West Baden Springs - SR 56, two miles north of French Lick. Tour the restoration in progress at West Baden Springs, an amazing landmark with a fascinating history. Experience the beautifully restored garden and immense domed atrium - 200 feet across and 100 feet tall, decorated with murals, gilded columns, statuary and potted palms. PSIA certified Ski Instructors will teach you the ropes of skiing or snowboarding. Whether you need group or private instruction, for any age or style, we will give you the "edge" this season. Orange County Museum - 300 W. Court Street, Paoli. It once was the home of Dr. Sherrod and is often referred to as the Sherrod House. It has been a temporary school at one time and a Courthouse Annex. The County Commissioners turned it over to the Orange County Historical Society who are now in the process of doing some much-needed renovation. It houses memorabilia, pictures, clothes, tools, items from our historical past and is free for the looking. Right now, it has to be done by appointment only. The entire family will thrill to the sights & sounds of a real train on the French Lick, West Baden & Southern! The conductor sounds "All Aboard" at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. EST on Saturdays, Sundays & Holidays from April - October; at 1 p.m. every Tuesday from June - October; on weekends in November. Trains depart the French Lick Depot on Hwy. 56 and run to Cuzco, 10 miles away, into the beautiful Hoosier National Forest and through the 2200 foot Burton Tunnel. The Lindley House - located on Willow Creek Road. Owned and maintained by the Orange County Historical Society, it has been furnished and kept in the tradition of an 1850-60 farmhouse. It belonged to the descendants of the Lindleys who founded Paoli and was given to the OCHS. It is the home of the Annual Ice Cream Social held every August. French Lick Winery & Coffee Company - PO Box 169, French Lick. (812) 936-2293 or (888) 949-6380. Established in 1995, French Lick Winery & Coffee Company is sure to be an enjoyable and educational destination. Located in the historic Beechwood Mansion, enjoy a tour of the wine cellar or visit our tasting room. Over twenty award winning wines are available for your tasting pleasure. Choose from traditional grape wines or try one of our more unique fruit wines such as Rhubarb. Gourmet coffees and teas, gift baskets and unique gift items are available as well as in-state shipping and case discounts on all our wines. Pioneer Mother's Forest - located at the east edge of Paoli on 150. It has virgin timber some of which is 200 years old. There is a picnic area and hiking trails that go all the way to the top of the hill on 37 South. The Orange County Courthouse - located in the center of downtown Paoli is on the National Historic Register and is the second oldest courthouse in Indiana still in use. It is one of the most-photographed buildings in the town. Tours are available as this has just recently been restored. The Clerk's office and the Judges Chambers and Courtroom are still housed there. |
