Jazz Heritage - Richmond. Hoagy Carmichael recorded "Star Dust" in 1923 at the old Starr Piano building known as the Gennett Recording Studios, once located on the banks of the Whitewater River Gorge. He, along with jazz greats like Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton, Bix Beiderbecke and Tommy Dorsey, recognized Richmond, Indiana as "the birth place of recorded jazz." Starr Piano opened in 1872, adding phonographs in 1915, and the recording industry was born. Contact Wayne County Historical Museum. (765) 962-5756

Junior Players of Richmond - PO Box 683, Richmond. Established in 1948, the Junior Players produce drama and theater arts education for children, by other children, three times a year. (765) 935-5593

Nettle Creek Players - PO Box 23, Hagerstown. The Nettle Creek Players is an educational summer stock theater which concentrates solely on musical theater. Richmond Symphony Orchestra - 300 Hub Etchison Parkway, Richmond. The Richmond Symphony Orchestra is a fully professional orchestra with 100 voice chorus that has entertained since 1957. The Whitewater Opera Company - PO Box 663, Richmond. Organized in 1972, the Whitewater Opera Company is the oldest independent professional opera company in the state and the only company that does statewide touring. The company produces three major operas each season, with performers auditioning from throughout the country and beyond. Performance are held at the Civic Hall Performing Arts Center. (765) 962-7106
