Ski Southern Indiana

What better way to combat the 'winter blahs' than taking an exciting ski trip. You may think that you have to spend a lot of money and travel to New England or Colorado to enjoy good skiing, but you can stay right here in Southern Indiana and enjoy some great skiing.

SouthernIN.com looked in to the skiing options in Southern Indiana and found three ski areas spread around the region. In the Southeast there is Dearborn County's Perfect North Slopes, in Brown County there is Ski World and in Orange County there is Paoli Peaks. All three of these areas had snow and were open in December. If you want to be certain, you can check out their web sites by clicking on their logos to the right.

The ski season for Southern Indiana lasts from some time in mid-December until early March. All three of these ski areas have extensive snowmaking capabilities so don't think that you can't ski just because we haven't had much snow. Once they have made the snow it will last through some pretty warm winter days. The day we visited it was probably near 50 degrees, but the skiing was great.

Below, we'll list some details of each of the three Southern Indiana ski areas. Find the one that's closest or that sounds the most appealing to you and go skiing this winter! Check their web sites or call to find out rates and specials.

Perfect North Slopes

Perfect North Slopes is located near Lawrenceburg in Dearborn County. This ski area has been operating successfully for 20 years and now offers 17 runs plus 5 beginner rope-tow areas. In celebration of their twentieth year, lift tickets are just $20 on the 20th of each month, all season long. They also offer an "All Night Ski" on Friday and Saturday Nights which actually ends at 3:00 a.m.

Perfect North Slopes offers runs for all abilities and also has ski school and easy slopes to give new skiers a quick start.

When we met with Chip Perfect, the Vice President and General Manager, he pointed out that their location is not only on the north face of the hill, but that it is also partially sheltered to the east and west by the surrounding hills. This provides a little additional protection from the melting rays of the sun.

With Perfect's large snowmaking capability and beneficial location, they are not phased by the recent mild winters. They average about 150,000 visitors each season from Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky as well as even more distant visitors. We even saw a license plate from Georgia in the parking lot on the day we visited.

Perfect North Slopes is alcohol-free and they do not allow snowboarding. You can find out more information by checking out their web site at http://www.perfectnorth.com.

If you're new to the winter sports experienced PSIA certified Ski Instructors will teach you the ropes of skiing or snowboarding. Group Lessons, Private Lessons, Children's Clinics, Racing Clinics, Women's, and Shaped Ski Clinics are all available.

Their state-of-the-art snowmaking capabilities include 110 towers that cover the slopes with twelve inches of snow in twenty-four hours. With forty foot mounds and twenty foot jumps, there is plenty to offer the more serious thrill-seeker.
