Corydon

Our trip continues on Route 62, through the countryside, east to the town of Corydon in Harrison County. Corydon is the site of Indiana’s First State Capital. You can enjoy the scenic countryside aboard a train, which you can pick up at the Corydon Scenic Railroad Depot just after you cross the Big Indian Creek and enter town. There are also several inviting shops, as well as historic sites such as the Courthouse on the Hill, The Constitution Elm, the First State Office Building, and of course the State Capital Building.

The State Capital Building is a well-preserved landmark, built of locally quarried rough blue limestone. Civil war and history buffs can visit the site of The Battle of Corydon, the only Civil War battle fought in Indiana. <click to see more>

Continue out of Corydon on Route 62, and you will go through Lanesville and enjoy the hilly farmland and old farmhouses. <see our Harrison County pages>
